This years annual Boxing Day clash between Budleigh Salterton and Exmouth Town looks set to be a cracker, writes Steve Birley.
For the first time in a number of years Town head to Greenway Lane as favourites based on the two sides current league placings.
Town were denied the chance to go into the derby as table toppers when their game at Ottery St Mary was postponed last weekend whilst Budleigh were 2-1 winners at home to Sidmouth Town to edge their way up to eleventh in the table.
The last time the pair clashed at Greenway Lane on Boxing Day was the 2006 meeting that Budleigh won 3-1.
One thing is for sure, this years clash which kicks off at 11am is most certainly a game not to miss.
The last time the pair met on Boxing Day at Greenway Lane was December 26, 2009. That day the Robins were 3-1 winners with the lone Town goal scored by Matt Dawson.
Town lined up that day; Sandy Allen, Chris Abraham, Robert Webber, Mark Smic, Ali Sawyer, Jack Civil, Andrew Jones, Ben Ashford, Ben Shephard, Matt Dawson and Kerry Butler. Substitutes; Paul Dowling and Adam Turner.
This season the two sides are having very different campaigns. Budleigh’s home form has seen them play nine games. They have beaten Axminster Town (5-2), Exeter Civil Service (5-2), University (3-2), Ottery St Mary (4-1), Teignmouth Town (1-0) and Sidmouth Town (2-1). Yet to share the spoils at Greenway Lane, the Robins have lost to Appledore (3-2), Liverton (4-1) and Okehampton (3-0).
Exmouth Town’s away form this season has seen them win at Alphington (4-0), Exeter Civil Service (2-0), Newton Abbot (6-2), Totnes and Dartington (3-1), Sidmouth Town (1-0). They have also drawn 3-3 at Stoke Gabriel whilst they have suffered just the one defeat on the road, losing 2-0 at Liverton.
