Exmouth Town Reserves top table at Christmas

Exmouth Town Reserves made sure of sitting top of the Fresha League Division Five table at Christmas with a 6-1 success over Beer Albion Reserves.
Victory moves Town six points clear of second placed Newtown.
The Southern Road pitch held up well in view of the amount of rain that had fallen last week. However it was a heavy surface which made passing the ball difficult and that upset the usual fluency of the Town game.
The opening third of the contest saw Town dominate, but without being able to turn chances into scores, generally through a distinct lack of composure in front of goal!
The deadlock was broken after good work on the left from James Leaper whose low cross was met by Garth Davies to finish in style.
James Sharky made a promising first start in centre midfield. The youngster seized his opportunity, serving up an assured display of ball winning and distribution that belied his youth.
A foul-throw, the culprit being Achref Ghnami, followed by another defensive error, resulted in the visitors being gifted an equaliser a minute before the break.
With the advantage of a strong wind in the second half, Town took charge. When Josh Kirby was upended in the area, he tucked away the resultant penalty to make it 2-1, and a second from Kirby extended the lead. Further goals followed from Richard Ralph, Josh Roper and Steve Cadywould as Town sealed a convincing victory.
With Simon Grigg and Peter Fletcher amongst a number of Town players to shine, it means there’s plenty of competition for places as the team head in to the New Year.
Town are back in action on New Years Eve when they face Dunkeswell Rovers.
