There were home wins for Exmouth Town and Exmouth RFC on the first Saturday of October and also a win double for Budleigh Salterton plus another success for Lympstone

Exmouth Town made it five successive South West Peninsula League Premier Division wins in a row as they defeated Ivybridge 5-0 at Southern Road.

The last time Town failed to win a league game had been an August 29 1-1 draw at Ivybridge, when, after the game, the Town faithful were left to return to East Devon feeling that they had dropped two points.

There was to be no repeat in the return meeting on the first Saturday in October after a 29th minute Aaron Denny goal was followed by a penalty from Nathan Cooper and a long-range strike from Scott Merritt to see Town into a 3-0 half-time lead.

Max Gillard made it four after the break and there was still time for a fifth to wrap up another terrific all-round Town performance.

Four of the five league wins since that 1-1 August draw at Ivybridge have been clean sheet success’s and Town continue to sport a 100 per cent home record this season in league and cup. Next up is next Saturday’s FFA Vase tie at home to Elburton Villa.

Budleigh Salterton, making a second successive Saturday trip to North Devon, were 3-1 winners at Torrington in a Devon Premier Cup tie.

In the Bill Slee Cup there was a 3-1 win for Lympstone over Lyme Regis Reserves, but Otterton crashed out, beaten 6-2 at Beer Albion Reserves.

In Division Three Budleigh Salterton Reserves won for the second successive Saturday, beating hosts North Tawton 4-0 and East Budleigh kept up their fine form with a 5-3 win at Tedburn St Mary.

Exmouth made it four wins from six South West Premier Division matches when they beat Maidenhead 22-14 at the Imperial ground. The victory lifts the Cockles’ into joint fourth spot in the table with Maidenhead. Both now on 21 points, eight shy of leaders Bournemouth with Ivybridge second n on 28 points.
