Exmouth big two enjoy terrific Tuesday night

It was a night of great sporting achievement for the big two Exmouth clubs, Exmouth RFC and Exmouth Town FC as both landed huge victories.
The Cockles won their Devon Cup semi-final at home to Newton Abbot 20-19 and that sees them safely into another County cup final and they will bid to lift the famous trophy for a third successive season when they face Barnstaple at the Imperial Ground on Sunday, May 5.
Before that big date the high-flying Cockles have Saturday’s final national Three (SW) League game to play and then they play the play-off match to determine where they will be playing their rugby next season – and that could yet be in the national Two League!
Exmouth Town were 3-1 winners at Galmpton United. The victory in South Devon takes Richard Pears’ side to within seven points of being crowned South West Peninsula League, Eastern Division champions.
Town head into Exeter on Saturday to play University, then host Budleigh next Wednesday in the derby before a Saturday, April 27 trip to Exeter Civil Service where they could well be crowed champions!
That major land mark in the club’s history could be brought forward to a celebratory evening at Southern Road next Wednesday night if nearest rivals Stoke Gabriel fail to win at Exeter Civil Service tonight (Wednesday).
