Exmouth Amateurs Under-13s close in on top spot in Division One

Exmouth Amateurs won a fifth game in six when they contested the day’s only Exeter and District Youth League Under-13 Division One game to be played.

With it being cup day across the league the fixture, against a team that Ammies beat 7-1 earlier in the season, gave the home side a great chance to gain ground on the leading pack.

Ammies started well, but the visitors presented a genuine threat on the counter – something the home back line dealt with very confidently.

The opening goal arrived 10 minutes before half-time when Lewis Cockayne marked his return to action from injury by rounding the goalkeeper before rolling the ball home to give his side an interval advantage. After the break Ammies doubled their lead with Ryan Shapcott curling a superb shot into the far top corner from the edge of the box. Scorer then turned provider with the assist for a Sam Wheeler goal to make it 3-0 and Shapcott also claimed the assist for the fourth and final goal, scored by Lewis Cockayne.

The win lifts Ammies to within three points of the table-topper CS Tigers who have played a game more.
