Exmouth Amateurs Under-11s edged a thrilling encounter on sun-kissed, but chilly morning.

Ammies went into the game without a number of players away on Easter holidays and with no substitutes.

Lewis Cockayne fired Ammies ahead only for the Exeter-based side to swiftly level up. Cockayne rifled in two more to complete a first half hat-trick and Sam Wheeler also netted with the visitors bagging one more leaving Ammies 4-2 up at half-time.

After the break West Exe were quickly back within one score and then levelled with a superbly worked goal.

With two minutes remaining the visitors had a shot that bounced on the line, the ball was cleared and, with what proved to be the last kick of then game, Wheeler netted the winner!

Ammies boss Danny Gould said: “The players were a credit to themselves and deserve to go on and win the title after a performance of this magnitude. They were tremendous all across the park.”
