St Martins 3, Exmouth Amateurs 5

Ammies emerged victorious after quite a game with the basement dwellers.

Ammies scored early through Lewis Cockayne before St Martins levelled. Cockayne then struck again to make it 2-1 at half-time.

Early in the second half Max Handford tucked away the third, but the battling hosts kept coming back and reduced the arrears before drawing level at 3-3, which was no more than their splendid performance deserved.

Title chasing Ammies needed to dig deep, and that they did! With five minutes remaining Cockayne rifled a shot home and there was still time for young Cockayne to score the games eighth and final goal.

Ammies boss Danny Gould said: “In three of our last four games we have netted inside the final five minutes to bank the points and that’s a good measure of how this team never stops believing. There’s tremendous character throughout this Ammies side.”

The Ammies’ Man of the Match award was shared between goalkeeper Ben Dawson and Nat Hawkins.
