EXMOUTH Amateurs won their Exeter and District Youth League Under-10 cup match against Tiverton based Moors Stars after a compelling encounter.

Ammies started well and showed some great passing and they were also strong at the back, thanks to fine work from Joe Paver, Matthew Seager and Oliver Toomey, who all gave great support to goalkeeper Edward Hurley.

Moors Stars seemed to find their feet in the last few minutes of the first half, but both teams went into half-time goalless.

In the second half, changes were made to the Ammies side and this saw some promising play involving Ieaun Kidd, Harry Ottaway, Harvey Russell and Zachary Higginson, but, despite their best efforts, they could not find a way past the excellent Moors defence.

Some clever passing saw Moors score the games opening goal, but Ammies were soon level when Callum Cross's superb corner ended up in the back of the net.

The game continued to heat up with both teams striving for that all important winning goal and, in the end, sheer guts, determination and perseverance paid off for Ammies in the shape of Oliver Toomey and Harry Ottaway.

The latter looked to have scored and it was Toomey who made sure to seal a 2-1 win and send Ammies into the 2nd Round of the cup.
