Exmouth Amateurs edged out at Topsham Town

Goal!

Goal!

Archant

Exmouth Amateurs were edged out in a titanic game at Topsham Town.

In heavy conditions the Ammies, battling to avoid an instant return to the Fresha League Division One, were on equal terms with the hosts for much of the contest.

An early second half goal from the Tops’ Rian Antat proved decisive as Ammies slipped to a 12th defeat in 19 Premier Division outings.

All is not lost yet in terms of the Warrenview men staying in the top flight. They still have nine games to play and it remains unclear as to how many teams will be seeking promotion to the Premier Division. Ammies sit second bottom and are seven points adrift of both Willand Rovers Reserves and Thorverton who are the sides currently sitting immediately above the three relegation berths.

Both Mid Devon sides have played two more than the Ammies who this Saturday travel to Clyst Valley for what is a real ‘six-pointer’.

Victory at Clyst Valley, who sit directly above them in the table, would move Ammies to within a single point of the Exeter side, and they would have a game in hand!
