Everett scores the perfect hat-trick as Militarymen march onwards and upwards

THE Royal Marines AFC climbed to eighth in the Peninsula League top flight table with a 3-1 win at Bovey Tracey.

It was the old master, Phil Everett, who struck all three of the Militarymen’s goals as the side recorded a fourth win in five outings.

School teacher Everett put his side ahead in the 25th minute with a right-foot strike and then he headed home to restore the lead after the hosts had levelled.

The hat-trick goal was a left- footed finish after he had danced around the home keeper.

Boss Richard Pears said: “It was a master-class in the art of finishing and, with a right foot, left foot and a header, also the perfect treble. It was a good all-round performance across the pitch from the lads who have, in recent weeks, risen to the challenge, worked hard and are now reaping the rewards from the confidence that their hard work has delivered.”

This Saturday, the Royal Marines travel to second in the table Buckland Athletic, where an away victory would see the Militarymen move to within touching distance of the top six.
