Bow 4, East Budleigh 1

East Budleigh 3, Witheridge 2

In an Easter Eggstravaganza of football both East Budleigh sides were kept busy and both can be proud of their latest victories, writes Mark Auton.

The First X1 travelled to the Playing Fields of Bow on Saturday and were forced to play on one of the poorest and tiniest surfaces seen this season.

The final scoreline flattered the home side as Budleigh were caught chasing the game late on. Hugo Demetre was Budleigh’s consolation goal getter.

It was a better afternoon on Monday as Man of the Match Jack Howarth scored a brace to help his side to a fine win coming from 2-1 down to beat Witheridge.

In what was a clean and entertaining game neither side could find a first half breakthrough. For Budleigh wing-backs Darren Everest and Dan Reynolds were linking well with the midfield trio of Adam Jones, Aaron Denny and Hugo Demetre and their combined play produced some good moments in creating opportunities for front pair Howarth and Si Tuley.

Five minutes into the second half the visitors scored, but Budleigh were level three minutes later when Tuley picked out the run of Howarth who slotted the ball neatly past the opposing keeper.

Sloppiness from Budleigh allowed the away side a 61st minute goal to regain the advantage, but Budleigh kept plugging away; With a quarter of an hour to go Howarth stooped to head Budleigh level following a Jones long throw and the points were confirmed in similar style ten minutes later. Jones’ throw found its way to Phil Page who headed against the bar before Tuley drove home the rebound.

Budleigh’s next match sees them visit Clyst Valley for an 11am Sunday (April 7) kick-off in the Morrison Bell Cup.
