Ottery St Mary 1, East Budleigh Reserves 1

East Budleigh Reserves produced a much better display last Saturday at Ottery and came away with a share of the spoils in what was an entertaining end to end game, writes Mark Auton.

It was the home side that drew first blood when Budleigh failed to clear a corner and Ottery took full advantage to score.

Budleigh were soon into their stride with some rapid counter attacking by Ben Rowland, Matt Thomas and Damien Mortimore and with Joe Rosser producing some good wing play, the home side were being pushed deeper and deeper towards their own goal.

The pressure eventually told as Man of the Match, Max Tooby, supplied Mortimore who, in turn crossed for ‘birthday boy’ Thomas who headed goalwards and was generously assisted by a defender to see the keeper lobbed to make it 1-1.

The second half saw Budleigh have the better of the chances. Thomas fired wide after good approach play, Rosser’s back post volley cleared the bar and Mortimore was unlucky to see his delightful dipping strike hit the post and fly to safety!

This Saturday Budleigh host Uplowman and will be looking to make the most of their home fixtures left to get them out of the danger area at the wrong end of the league.
