Despite racing into a two-goal lead inside 13 minutes, East Budleigh Reserves had to settle for a share of the spoils when they entertained Culm United Reserves in a Macron League Division Eight meeting at Vicarage Road, writes Mark Auton.

Ten minutes in, Ben Wilks won a free-kick; Tom Christian delivered with intent and it was Julian Green that headed in.

Two minutes later, Kieran Tullett challenged and when the ball landed at the feet of Wilks he made no mistake.

Budleigh continued to control proceedings, but, on the half hour, a speculative effort from the visitors went in off the Budleigh post to reduce the arrears.

Keeper Drew Shorrock then made a fine stop to prevent an equaliser before the break.

In the second period, both sides could have added to the score; Budleigh were forced into a double change with both Mark Bown and Rory Waite picking up injuries and being replaced by Joe Walker and Simon Coughlan respectively.

Wilks came closest to a Budleigh third, whilst Lewis Fletcher cleared off the line twice before Culm grabbed their second, five minutes from the end.

This Saturday (January 20) Budleigh will look to return to winning ways when they visit a Bradninch Villa side that currently sits bottom of the table and who they defeated 9-1 when the sides met at Vicarage Road on the opening day of the season.

The East Budleigh first team were also in action with a Division Two visit to Kentisbeare where they were beaten by the odd goal in five.

Hugo Demetre and Liam Matthew were on target for the Jays, who will look to show ‘bounce-back-ability’ when they host Newtown this weekend (2.15pm).
