East Budleigh Reserves land first Fresha success of season

East Budleigh Reserves 2, Silverton 0

Goals from Harry Trick and Ben Wilks gave East Budleigh Reserves their first Fresha Division Six success in a contest that was not for the footballing connoisseur, writes Mark Auton.

Chances were at a premium at both ends of the first period with the ball often spending more time in the air than on the floor.

In the 22nd minute a clearance from keeper Mark Bown led to Joe Rosser winning a corner at it was Trick that scored for the fourth consecutive game getting the final touch from a sweetly-struck Tom Christian kick.

At the other end, defensive duo Rich Wyatt and Adam Wheatley were solid with the latter making a finely timed tackle to keep his side ahead.

After the interval, the away side upped to anti; Bown saved well down to his left and also produced an excellent reaction save to tip over Silverton’s best chance.

With Budleigh’s next attack, Christian found Ryan Britton who carved out the opportunity for Wilks to side foot into the net and seal the points.

It was a good morale-boosting win for Budleigh; Bown handled well, Wheatley, Trick and Wilks all worked hard, but the Man of the Match award went to another newcomer, Max Tuley.

On Saturday, Budleigh go to Honiton in search of a similar result (kick-off 2.15pm).
