Archant

East Budleigh Reserves played their Football Express Cup tie after the first team game in a Vicarage Road double header, but unfortunately went the same way as the senior side, going down to a 3-0 defeat to Sampford Peverell, writes Mark Auton.

Like the senior side the Jays second string were up against a team from a league above them. Budleigh fought hard;, but Darren Dawes was busy at the back with some important defending as the away side had the better of the chances.

The opening goal arrived after 37 minutes to give Sampford a half-time lead.

Eight minutes after the re-start Budleigh’s best chance arrived from a teasing centre from the left boot of Alex Manning who saw Rosser’s connection clear the bar.

Budleigh tried their hardest to find an opening and keeper Drew Shorrock kept them in the game with a fine save.

The game was still there to be won until the last five minutes and with Budleigh committing to attack the visitors struck twice more to seal Budleigh’s fate.

For Budleigh Adam Wheatley had a good match alongside the impressive Dawes.

This Saturday Budleigh are on the road in league action when they visit Silverton.
