East Budleigh Reserves departed the Intermediate Cup last Saturday at the hands of Bridgerule from Holsworthy, writes Mark Auton.

In what was an even first half it was Jack Hocking that went closest for the Jays seeing his shot just clear the bar.

The second period started in the worst possible way when the visitors opened the scoring a minute in and but for Keeper Drew Shorrock coming off his line well to prevent a second Budleigh were still in the tie.

Midway through the half Budleigh squandered a chance to level from the penalty spot, but kept going and almost levelled when another good ball in from Ben Radford almost produced an own goal.

Budleigh sent on Jack Howarth in search of that elusive goal, but things were made harder when Bridgerule were awarded a penalty after a dive and Budleigh were reduced to ten men.

The spot kick was converted and the away side progressed.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Budleigh will look to bounce back when they return to league action at Vicarage Road against Pinhoe (3pm).
