East Budleigh Reserves booked a semi- final berth against Tipton St John thanks to a 24th minute goal from Dan Atkinson in the Golesworthy Cup last Sunday, writes Mark Auton.
It was more of a battling display from Budleigh as both sides found it hard to create clear chances.
Budleigh had the better of the early sparring; Steve Davey flashed an effort wide before Budleigh broke the deadlock. Ryan Britton it was who claimed the assist when his through ball was neatly seized upon by Atkinson who ran on to slot the ball past the visiting keeper.
Britton then went close to a second but his volley was at the right height for the keeper to parry.
The second half saw Budleigh have to defend stoutly and the back four of Rory Waite, Rich Wyatt, Adam Wheatly and Colin Jeans were up to the task.
Substitute Greg Konopka and Atkinson could both have added to the score, but Budleigh will be happy with the win.
Steve Davey was nominated Man of the Match for a Budleigh side who travel to Langdon in Division 6 on Saturday.
