East Budleigh Reserves beaten in cup semi-final

PUBLISHED: 16:00 17 May 2018

Ottery St Mary was the setting for a cup semi-final that East Budleigh Reserves will only want to remember the first half, writes Mark Auton.

Leading 2-1 at the break against an opponent from two leagues superior, Budleigh had produced a fine first-half display.

Eight minutes into the game Liam Matthew picked out George Harris and his cross was converted by Julian Green.

Seven minutes later Upottery levelled, but Budleigh were still doing OK; Hugo Demetre was denied by the keeper, before Budleigh went ahead again on 34 minutes; Harris picked out Tom Christian, who flicked the ball back and it was Green who bundled the ball home.

On the stroke of half-time Christian went close to a third from Liam Matthew’s cross.

The second period was a very different story and totally bossed by Upottery, who will now meet Bradninch in the final of this year’s competition.
