East Budleigh made the short journey to near neighbours Otterton for a Tuesday night game that saw them win 2-1 to claim a kick-off and battled hard for a second victory of the season, writes Mark Auton.

Budleigh began well and were ahead after 14 minutes when a George Harris free-kick reached Dan Atkinson who squared the ball for Dan Reynolds to make it two goals in two games for him.

Harris went close to a second when fed by Ben Wiltshire, whilst the hosts had a couple of good chances at the other end.

On the stroke of half-time Otterton levelled when Lee Mitchell converted from the penalty spot.

The Otters should have taken the lead after the re-start, but squandered their chance, before Budleigh regained the advantage midway through the half; Liam Matthew saw his backward header find the corner of the net from a Matt Jones throw.

Jacob Rice produced an excellent 20-minute cameo from the bench and almost created a third for Atkinson who fired wide and Matthew also struck the crossbar.

The home side fought for every ball and Budleigh’s back three of Adam and Matt Jones and Steve Hitchcock defended well in front of Dean Rawlings who made a fine stop late on. The Man of the Match was Reynolds, who just edged out the performance of Hitchcock.
