East Budleigh made the journey to Witheridge last Saturday and came away on the wrong end of an odd goal in five score line against a what was a good footballing side, writes Mark Auton.
Despite this Budleigh got off to the perfect start and were two up within 20 minutes.
Dan Atkinson spotted the home stopper off his line to score with a delightful chip before top scorer Jack Howarth picked up a ricochet in the opposing area before finding the back of the net.
At this stage the home side were always in the game and just before the break pulled one back with a well taken goal.
The hosts started the second half with renewed enthusiasm and for a while Budleigh were coping well, but unfortunately a good ten minute spell saw Budleigh caught out twice as Witheridge turned things around to lead.
Budleigh battled in the closing stages, throwing everything but the kitchen sink at their opponents but were unable to find a way through.
For Budleigh Howarth and Atkinson worked hard in attack, whilst both Steve Davey and Harry Trick did well stepping up from the Reserves with the latter outstanding.
This Saturday Budleigh entertain Newton St Cyres at Vicarage Road, whilst the Reserves visit Alphngton 3rds. Both games kick-off at 2.15pm.
