East Budleigh denied Beacon Knights win by late fluke goal

Beacon Knights 1, East Budleigh 1

East Budleigh were denied all three points in this fixture last Saturday when the home side snatched a last minute leveller thanks to a divot in the pitch, writes Mark Auton.

Keeper Rob Dance dived to save a free-kick, but the ball bounced up and over him and into the net.

Overall the hosts probably deserved a share of the spoils, but it was a bitter pill to take with the last kick of the game.

Josh Sale gave Budleigh the lead after 25 minutes when his well hit shot found the top corner for his fourth goal in five games since returning to the club.

Both sides had further chances, but it was Budleigh who led at the break.

The second period was a game of two halves with Budleigh on top, but as the game went into the last quarter Knights gradually pushed Budleigh back, before grabbing their slice of luck.

For Budleigh Phil Page, Sale and Tim Whiteoak all turned in fine performances for a Budleigh side who visit Wellington for a Good Friday fixture.
