East Budleigh took on Premier side Hatherleigh last Saturday in the East Devon Senior Cup, but will kick themselves for giving away some sloppy goals in a 3-0 defeat to visiting Hatherleigh, writes Mark Auton.

Budleigh started brightly with some good early possession and Adam Jones came closest following his header from a Jack Howarth corner.

However, it was the away side that struck twice in an 11 minute period to take control as Budleigh failed to clear their lines.

At the other end Aiden Martin looked most likely to open up the opposing defence and moments before the break he exchanged passes with Howarth who was mightily unfortunate to be denied by the post.

A goal at that point would have given Budleigh the impotous to go on, but midway through the second half Budleigh gifted Hatherleigh a third; Jones was also on hand with a last ditch tackle whilst keeper Rob Dance made a smart penalty save for the second week in a row.

A late flourish from Budleigh saw Dan Reynolds denied following another Howarth corner and from the next kick it was Andy Case who saw his screamer just clear the bar.

Budleigh return to league action at Newton St Cyres this Saturday looking to tighten up at the back and to cut out the errors.
