East Budleigh had to settle for a share of the spoils in their latest Macron League Division Two outing, a 1-1 home draw with Halwill, writes Mark Auton.

The Jays were not at their best in this one and a point apiece was probably a fair result.

In a scrappy first half both sides found themselves giving the ball away and clear chances were hard to come by early on.

The deadlock was eventually broken by the visitors on the half hour, but Budleigh were level five minutes later when Jacob Rice squared for Hugo Demetre to stride forward before drilling the ball into the bottom corner with an accomplished finish.

The second half saw both sides up the anti! Dan Atkinson had an early effort saved before Budleigh keeper Dean Rawlings pushed a Halwill chance on to his bar. The visitors also had a couple of excellent chances, but wasted their opportunities.

Demetre headed over a well-taken Liam Mabin corner, before Atkinson was wrongly denied by an offside flag on 63 minutes. Shortly after, George Harris and Josh Whiller joined the action as Budleigh went in search of the winner.

Liam Matthew and Jack Howarth came closest, but with Budleigh pushing forward they were almost caught on the break, but Steve Hitchcock used all his experience to time his tackle and snuff out the danger.

Demetre was the pick of a Budleigh side that visit Thorverton this weekend. The second team are also in action against Thorverton opposition, hosting the Thors second team at Vicarage Road with both matches starting at 3pm.
