Budleigh were single goal winners when they entertained Teignmouth on the final Saturday of November, writes Alan Beer.
Having suffered a heavy defeat at Teignmouth on the opening day of the season the Robins went into the Greenway Lane meeting looking to avenge that defeat and bring to an end a run of three successive defeats.
The game was a fairly nondescript affair but out of the mundane came a real contender for the goal of the season! With 14 minutes gone Darren Carr struck a shot from fully 40-yards out on the left hand side of the pitch.
The visiting keeper, Darren Shrubb, was caught outside his 67-yard area and unable to get back to prevent the ball flying into the net!
Teignmouth’s Steve Wardell was unable to hit the target from close range on two separate occasions but that was the closest the visitors got to troubling Adie Pullin in the Robins goal.
Just before the break the Robins players were left fuming when the appeared to be denied a second goal with the ball looking to have crossed the line well before being hooked clear by a visiting defender.
The second half was very average fare with precious little excitement at either end of the pitch but the Robins faithful were at least able to see their team end the recent poor run and bank a precious three Eastern Division points.
On Saturday the Robins head for one time table topping Okehampton Argyle who brought their own poor run to an end with a 5-1 success at struggling Axminster Town last weekend.
When the pair met at Greenway Lane on October 22 it was Okehampton who left with the points after a 3-0 win.
