BRIXINGTON Blues Under-13 took on top of the table rivals Ipplepen in a compelling contest that ended with neither side able to claim all three precious points as they settled for a 1-1 draw, writes Terry Wright.

Despite enjoying the lion's share of the ball in the first half the Blues could not turn their dominance into goals and the sides went into half-time without a score between them.

After the break, a reinvigorated Ipplepen attacked with real conviction and the change in tempo seemed to surprise the Blues and for once the otherwise stalwart defensive line of Gilhooly, Bennington, Douglas & Evans was breached.

In goal Gilby simply couldn't reach a well-taken finish and the Blues found themselves a goal down.

Fowler, Byrne, Toomey and Cuthbertson fought hard to reassert midfield dominance and, just when it seemed that an equalizer would not arrive, Toomey found Cuthbertson driving forward just outside into the box.

Cuthbertson took on, and beat, an opponent before threading a neat pass to Clapp who neatly sides-tepped the keeper to slide-rule home the leveller.

The Blues then looked to secure victory but that elusive winning strike would not come and they had to settle for a share of the spoils.
