What a marvellous way to start the Exeter and District Youth League Under-14 Division Two campaign, with a very entertaining derby between Budleigh Salterton and Brixington Blues, producing six well taken goals, writes SpursTom.

Two outstanding displays stood out, firstly that of home defender Rory Bland a very polished left back, but he was outshone by the star of the show Sam Hill, the Brixington keeper, who pulled off some astounding saves especially in the second period.

Budleigh started the brighter and took the lead on six minutes with James Bridge slotting home. It became 2-0 with Matt Garnett finding the net on the quarter of an hour mark. The lead was reduced just before the interval by speedy Guy Laverock.

It was all square within 30 seconds of the start of the second half with a brilliant individual run and strike by Hayden Saxton.

Though Brixington’s Sam Hill was the busier keeper, home glovesman Nick Eveleigh saved the Robins before they regained the advantage through Adam Wilkinson. The Blues were punished whilst chasing for an equalizer, when Sam Balbi beat the offside trap to complete the scoring 4-2.

A special mention to debutant referee Connor Murphy who officiated efficiently, and like all the players need to be congratulated for their contributions.
