The students certainly looked the livelier of the two teams, but it was a trio of individual errors that gifted them their goals.
In the 19th minute the visitors went ahead when Mike Davis slipped past Luke Kelsall down the left wing and set up a chance for Richard Payne, who coolly chipped Mark Rock in the visitor's goal.
That proved to be the only score of the first half but,11 minutes into the second period, Leroy Marke, in space, picked up a loose ball on the edge of the 18 yard box and fired home off the left-hand post.
The students then made the game safe on 68 minutes when John Bedrock skipped through the Robins defence and slotted home.
On this evidence it could be a long hard season ahead for the Robins, who are next in action on Saturday when they entertain an Axminster Town side who have opened their SW Peninsula League campaign with a draw and a 5-2 defeat, the latter at the hands of Alphington last Saturday.
Budleigh Team: M Rock, L Kelsall, C Everest, S Hitchcock, A Osbourne, M Hesford, P Grover, B Wright, D Williams, D Hall, D Wilkes, Subs used; D Hall, S Francis, N Saunders, T Neild.
The Robins are back in action this weekend when they stage an East Devon derby with the visit of Axminster Town.
Both sides go into the game without a win in their opening Peninsula League outings and so there's plenty at stake at Greenway Lane (3pm).
