Budleigh Salterton were beaten 5-1 by Brixham for the second time this season when they visited the South Devon side on Saturday, writes Alan Beer.
Twice in the opening exchanges Robins’ gloves man Alan Doble made splendid saves, but the shot that beat him, struck from 20-yards by Sean Kenny, squirmed through his hands!
In the 26th minute Jack Greenslade spurned a glorious chance to level when he rounded a grounded home goalkeeper only to see his shot on goal roll wide! The Brixham lead was doubled just five minutes before the break when Rob Skornia netted from close range after a corner had not been cleared properly by the visiting defence.
The second half was end-to-end with chances few and far between until, in the 75th minute a Callum Shipton cross was turned home by Mark Lever to halve the Robins’ deficit.
However, a minute later the two-goal margin was restored when Scott Dodson scored and he netted again in the 84th minute to seal victory.
A fifth in the last minute of added time simply served to deepen the Budleigh gloom as they shipped five to the Easter Division new boys for the second time this term.
On another disappointing all-round afternoon for the Budleigh faithful the one shining light was the contribution from midfield of Hugo Demetre.
The Robins were in action last night with an Axminster Hospital Cup tie at Greenway Lane against Coombe St Nicholas and on Saturday they entertain Alphington before the Boxing Day (11am) visit to Sidmouth Town.
