Before getting down to the Budleigh Salterton ladies’ performance, it’s a big thank you to referee Mr Leon Jagodzinski not only for his handling of the game, but also for not abandoning the game midway through the second half when the rain threatened to waterlog the proceedings, writes SpursTom.
Let’s start with the Budleigh Ladies 2013-2014 squad, Bethany Acca, Laura Atkinson, Rebecca Barnsley, Katherine Binmore, Kelly Browring, Lucy Burch, Hannah Davey, Chelcey Greasley, Becky Hazell, Kallie Horner, Molly Jacobs, Anita James, Héléne Jan, Melanie Jones, Hannah Newton, Haylee Pannell, Kathryn Parsley, Laura Raddaway, Lucy Richardson, Stacey Rogers, Dominae Weeks, Celine White, Kayleigh Williams, Olivia Young and Abby Yukon.
These names should be imprinted in the record books of Budleigh Salterton Football Club, for they have created two significant pieces of history; as the club’s first ladies team, and that having been in existence for only three years to triumphantly capture the Devon Women League Division One title.
Needing only a point to be assured of overtaking Activate FC, everyone was apprehensive before kick-off, especially with almost the largest attendance for ANY game at Greenway Lane this season.
However, once the whistle blew they stormed into their opponents, Morley Rangers, to perform a demolishing job with some stunning strikes and a mean defence. Goals by Kathryn Parsley, Dominae Weeks, Becky Hazell, Abby Yukon and a brace by Lucy Richardson completed a resounding 6-0 victory, followed by celebration dives in the puddles. Player of the match goes to all 16 players for their commitment.
