Winslade Park Avenue played host to a Fresha League top flight relegation scrap between hosts Clyst Valley and Budleigh Salterton Reserves, writes SpursTom.

Having both won their previous games the two teams needed to keep the momentum going.

Clyst Valley started off with a six point and two place advantage over the Robins and so nothing but a win would suffice for the visitors.

It started at a fast pace going from end to end in search of that first goal with perhaps the home keeper the busier of the two.

He was beaten when the deadlock was broken in the 21st minute, Josh Hill benefitting from a bad clearance following a corner. There was no rest-up by either side. Visiting goalkeeper Alex Richardson saved his side minutes before teammate Adam Turner grabbed the Robins second almost on half time.

After the break the home team took the game to Budleigh, but were very grateful to giant keeper Chris (Gibbo) Lane for a superb double save in the 69th minute. Surprisingly moments later he was the subject of a tactical substitution, the manager withdrew an outfield player with substitute Simon Harris going between the sticks, and Chris going up front to add more physical strength. It had the required effect as the visitors who had already used all three substitutes were rattled. They were becoming second best in challenges whilst passes went astray; any scoring chances were also being missed.

They were eventually punished firstly with about 10 minutes remaining, and then with the equaliser arriving almost at the end of normal time, and could so easily have lost all in injury time.
