Budleigh ladies earn deserved share of spoils in draw with University

In their first match since the draw away to University of Exeter at the beginning of November, the ladies team of Budleigh Salterton were involved in a tightly fought contest against their visiting guests, Ilfracombe Town Ladies, at Greenway Lane on Sunday, writes SpursTom.
This was a match that the hosts needed to win to pull away from their rivals having played one game more.
Having won the previous meeting Ilfracombe looked the more confident from the kick-off with their attacking play, as in the early exchanges the Robinettes looked a pace behind. They were made to pay for hesitating allowing Charlotte Utton in on goal where she made no mistake. Nine minutes later a defence splitting pass from Budleigh star performer Chelcey Greasley set up youngster Jade Bamsey to equalise. Good understanding between Abbey Yukon and Molly Jacobs down the left lead to the latter putting Budleigh ahead. With the interval approaching it was all square as Laura Shaw netted.
There is no doubt certain qualities were lacking in the game, with the visitors perhaps the slightly more direct in their forward play, and it was them who retook the lead on 55 minutes through Elizabeth Berry. Halfway through the half a penalty was awarded to the Robinettes following a late tackle on Bamsey and dead ball specialist Yukon slammed the spot kick home.
As tiredness set in neither team could find a winner, and I agreed with the match official that a draw was a fair result.
