In the Westward Developments Devon Women League, Budleigh ladies travelled to Tedburn St Mary to take on Exeter and Tedburn Rangers in a Premier division match, writes SpursTom.

Both side’s went into the match needing points for different reasons, the hosts to strengthen their chance of the title and for the visitors to pull away from a relegation dog fight.

The match produced five goals, the first a well-executed chipped lob over the keeper by Becky Folds to put Tedburn ahead on 19 minutes, Nicola Brown and Abi Breban gave them a three goal cushion going into the break.

News came through that second-placed Activate were fielding an under strength side containing just eight players away to rejuvenated University of Exeter, with defeat handing the title to Tedburn.

The second period continued as expected with the Robins mainly on the defensive, they conceded a fourth on 64 minutes to Emma Mingo, but still tried to be positive going 4-4-2 instead of the lone striker, the gamble paid off with a consolation goal from Sara Burke, a sweet curler into the top right hand corner. It helped her share Budleigh Player of the Match with Kelly Browring.

Congratulations to Exeter and Tedburn Rangers who are champions after this 4-1 victory and Activate’s defeat.
