Budleigh’s Devon and Exeter League side picked up maximum points in a derby win on Saturday.

The Robins claimed their fifth top flight success of the season with a 2-1 Greenway Lane win over improving neighbours Exmouth Amateurs.

The contest was anything but a classic and indeed became one of a scrappy nature.

The home side struck first and took the lead on twenty minutes when Darren Carr whipped in a cross and an Ammies defender put into his own net.

There was more ill fortune to follow for the visitors when, five minutes after the goal, they fell further behind.

A corner was delivered and, under pressure from Steve Hitchcock, the unfortunate Paul McMahon headed past his own keeper.

Five minutes before the break the visitors halved the deficit.

In the second half there was a similar fare served up to the first 45 minutes but the hosts did come under late pressure during which time the defence stood firm and they closed the game out to pick up three deserved, albeit hard earned, points.

The victory leaves the Robins sitting eighth on 17 points having played14 games.

They arrive at the half-way mark of the League campaign this coming Saturday when they entertain high flying Newtown.

The Exeter side pitch up at Greenway Lane sitting second in the table, some six points adrift of leaders Seaton Town.
