Brixington Blues Under-14s have found life tough back in the top flight after promotion as Division Two champions in the under-13 section of the Exeter and District Youth League.
That said, Steve Gibbons’ side have gained many admirers for their play throughout the season.
Their latest game saw them take on a Thorverton side that had beaten them 1-0 earlier in the campaign.
The Mid Devon side opened the scoring, but parity was swiftly restored through Max Howard and Blues took the lead thanks to a smart finish from Jason Mann.
Clearly on top playing some superb passing football, what Blues were unable to do was to press home their advantage and the Thors made it 2-2 before the break. In the second half, shortly after rattling the Blues bar, Thorverton took a 3-2 lead. However, this Blues side are not short of character and showed in abundance again as they stormed back with Cameron Brown levelling things up with 10 minutes remaining.
That set the scene for one big push for a precious winner, but it was not forthcoming and a return to Division Two now seems likely for the Blues.
That said, don’t bet against this team bouncing straight back up next term!
