Brixington Blues Under-13s were emphatic 8-2 winners when they met Tiverton-based Moors Hawks in an Exeter and District Youth League match.
Blues made a powerful start and were denied an early goal by the depth of the crossbar as a shot from Joel Knott cannoned back off the frame of the goal.
However, they did not have too long to wait for an opening goal as, from a Russ Bracey goal kick, Ben Geare moved the ball onto Elliott Bowyer, who showed a great first touch to create sufficient time and space to drill the ball home.
The lead was doubled with scorer of the first, Bowyer, turning provider to create the chance that was taken with aplomb by Ethan Beverley.
Knott then took a cross from skipper Jake Haggerty to draw a fine save from the goalkeeper before a second goal from Bowyer. Moors struck back to net their first of the game, before Thomas Rowsell provided the assist to a Knott volley, to give Blues a 4-1 lead. Moors again hit back, but strong defending by Finn Glanfield and Harrison Fox meant there was no way back for the Mid Devon side.
With Ben Geare and Haggerty bossing midfield it was no surprise when, after good approach play involving Geare and Jake Drew-Cull, the latter scored to make it 5-1.
When a Beverley shot was parried by the glovesman, Drew-Cull pounced to drill home to loose ball and, after some fine play from Rowsell, Bowyer scored again to make it 7-1.
Blues were not finished and they scored an eighth when Haggerty and Rowsell linked up well prior to Drew-Cull scoring.
Battling Moors had the final say with their second – the game’s 10th goal – but Blues were not to be denied a terrific win.
