Brixington Blues Under-12s were 5-2 winners when they met West Hill Wasps in an Exeter and District Youth League East Devon derby, writes Alan Diprose.
Blues got off to a flying start with skipper Will Cooper heading home a second minute corner. With the lively Matthew Rye causing the Wasps problems chances were created and Luke Buck saw an effort go just wide before the ball was turned into his own net by a Wasps defender. Sam Diprose added a third with a sweet left footed strike before the Blues defence were punished for a slip with Wasps getting one back before half-time. Tom Humphry and Owen Shaw both had an industrious halves whilst Scott Simpson-Currie defended very well.
The second half was just two minutes old when Wasps further reduced the deficit and only a superb save from Blues keeper Matthew Edworthy denied them an equaliser before Owen Shaw struck to give Blues a 4-2 lead.
Tom Humphry hit the bar and twice the Blues had ‘goals’ ruled out for off-side as Max Rickards began to cause serious problems for the wasps back line.
Cooper rattled the cross bar with a free-kick and Jake Diprose, who showed many good touches in midfield throughout the game, saw an effort well saved. The best was saved for last as Man of the Match Sam Diprose weaved his way round several players before unselfishly squaring for Rickards to score the games final goal.
This Saturday Blues turn their attention to the League Cup when they host City Raiders Galaxy.
