Heavitree 3, Brixington Blues 2
On a very wet and windy day, Heavitree and Brixington Blues Under-11s served up a five-goal thriller, writes Alan Diprose.
In what was another good advert for junior football both teams ‘won’ a half each.
The first half started saw Heavitree attacking down the slope, and it soon became apparent that they would have to play well to beat Will Cooper in the Blues goal!
The youngster produced several diving saves to keep the hosts at bay during the first 20 minutes.
The Exeter side then took control with the lively Nelson Iseguan scoring twice and Wayne Birch also netted as the Heavies took a 3-0 advantage into the break.
In the second half Blues had the advantage of the slop and they pushed Will White into his favoured striking role.
Tom Humphry and Sam Diprose both went close before Man of the Match White struck twice.
His first was a powerful run from inside his own half, a deft touch past the ‘keeper and into the net for a classic individual goal.
Humphry and White were unlucky with shots that were a whisker away as the Blues battled in vain to find an equaliser.
Finnley Doyle-Stott impressed on his Blues debut and Matthew Edworthy had a solid game in defence.
