Brixington Blues are close to the end of the season but are hoping to end on a high as four of their teams have the finals of knockout cups in their respective age groups.

The Exeter and District Youth League cup finals are being held at the Ladysmead home of Tiverton Town Football Club over the first weekend of May ( 5 and 6) and Blues have three teams in action on the Sunday.

The U9s, coached by Gavin Dawkins, have their final at 9.30am. The U10s, coached by Shaun Slater, have their finals at 10.30am and the U12s, coached by Jason Dean, will play their final at 4pm.

Meanwhile, Brixington Blues U15 girls, in their first season with the club, have reached the final of the Devon Under-15s KO Cup and they will play Moors Youth at Tiverton High School later in May.

Since the beginning of the year the Blues girls have enjoyed success upon success and head into the final looking for revenge over Tiverton-based Moors, who have beaten them in both league meetings this season.

Off the pitch, Blues are thrilled with new appointments; Emma McBryan has taken on the role of club secretary and Tony McCann has assumed the role of child welfare officer. The pair have been instrumental in the club’s decision to hold the end-of-season Presentation Event at Withycombe Rugby Club on Sunday, May 13, with a noon start through to 5pm.

In addition to the presentation of trophies there will be a marquee, barbecue and other refreshments plus an ice-cream van.

Activities include bouncy castle, penalty shoot out and speed shot competitions etc. All club members, parents, siblings and grandparents etc, are warmly are welcome.

Next season, Andy Bennett, who played for the Brixington Blues in the early 1990s, is returning to the club to coach the Under-12s. He is looking for a few more players to join the squad. Andy can be contacted on 07980 238468.

Shaun Slater, who will be coaching next season’s Under 11s, is also looking for players to join the Under 11s squad next season. Shaun can be contacted on 07980 832690.

The club are also delighted to have recruited Rich Ralph to coach next season’s Under-7s. Ralph is a very experienced and qualified coach and he is looking for players for next year’s U7 team. The age qualification is players who will reach the age of seven after August 31, 2018 and before September 1, 2019.
