Breakdown, absent official, bad injury - it all happened to Budleigh Reserves in latest Fresha League game

St Martin’s 8, Budleigh Salterton Reserves 0

The Robins second team suffered a double whammy in this defeat to title chasing St Martins, writes SpursTom.

Not only did they become the latest team to be over-powered by the Exminster side, but they may well now have to do without the talents of keeper Adrian Pullin for the remainder of the season after he suffered a broken arm.

The team might have been forgiven for thinking it was not going to be their day when the mini-bus broke down on route to the game!

Having got to the venue there was no sign of the appointed official and after hasty phone calls the contest got underway with the St Martins linesman taking on the whistling duties.

The appointed referee took over 15 minutes after the start! The opening exchanges saw the visitors wasting three very good chances whilst, in an end-to-end contest, the home side also hit the woodwork!

As play progressed the hosts made good use of pace of the flank men and winning numerous corners. Two goals between the 33 and 39 minutes including an astounding strike by Andrew Brooks set Budleigh back.

Disaster struck in the final two minutes of the half with the saints adding two more and keeper Pullin sustaining that injury whilst attempting to make a brave save.

The game was held up for 25 minutes as an ambulance arrived and the unfortunate Pullin was seen to. Within a minute of the re-start Budleigh shipped a fifth and the hosts went on to add three more to finish emphatic victors.

For Budleigh no one worked harder than Sam Schlaefli, who I have no hesitation in making him my Man of the Match.

Of course the best wishes of all concerned at the club go to Adi Pullin who we wish a speedy recovery.
