THE Royal Marines AFC have Newton Abbot Spurs between them and a place in the last eight of the Graddon Vending Devon Premier Cup after a 5-2 3rd round win over Totnes and Dartington on Saturday.

The manner in which the Marines despatched Saturday's visitors to Endurance Park was both methodical and clinical, a side they had already beaten, albeit 2-1, in the first month of the Peninsula League campaign.

Regular Marine AFC watchers were treated to one of the most complete performances of the season by the side who passed the ball superbly and cut the visitors' defence apart almost at will, in particular during an opening 20 minutes that saw them score four times.

In the second half, with the game won, some of the football was a delight to watch and the visitors were perhaps a little fortunate to depart with their goal only breached five times!

Simon Bochenski bagged a brace in that opening salvo and other goals came from Shae Saunders and Chris Duchenski with Richie Hope adding the 5th after the break.

Factor in that the side who turned over Totnes and Dartington still has Sam Woodin - he played for the Reserves on Saturday to boost his return from injury - as well as regulars Davie Cairns, Ben Hebditch and Jimmy Hill all missing, it speaks volumes for the strength in depth at Endurance Park this term.

Next up for the Marines is Saturday's visit to Endurance Park of Axminster Town.

It's an East Devon derby and another home win would hopefully close the current eight point gap between the military men and the current Eastern Division leaders, Exeter Civil Service.

l Meanwhile the Marines AFC Reserves went out of the Jail Ale Devon Senior Cup beaten 5-0 by Exeter-based Phoenix Club.

The team do not have far to travel for this weekend's game as they are at Lympstone for a Devon and Exeter League Division Three derby match (2.15pm).
