Archant

Brixington Blues Under-12s ran out 2-1 winners in an entertaining game at the Bettysmead home of Exeter Panthers.

The deadlock was broken when, midway through the first half, after a neat passing sequence, the ball arrived at the feet of Ethan Hawes, who threaded a perfectly weighted pass through the Panthers’ defence for Luke Ewing to run onto and tuck past the out-rushing home glovesman.

Changes were made at the start of the second half with Bobby Pond, Ethan Edwards, Harry Williams and Luca Brind all introduced and this gave renewed impetus to Blues and they fashioned a number of chances before Thomas Dean applied a cool finish to a team move to double the lead.

As the game drew to a close Panthers pulled a goal back and there was nothing Blues glovesman Jeffery could do about it.

There were good performances right throughout the Blues team, but the Player of the Week honours went to Luke Ewing for his tireless running, strong tackling and cool finish for his goal. Keeper Ben Jeffery also deserves a special mention for what was a very assured performance.
