Brixington Blues Under-12s were narrow winners in an entertaining derby meeting with Exmouth United in the Exeter and District Youth League.

The early exchanges saw each side test the others defence. Paddy McGuiness had to be at his best, as he was, in the Blues goal. In front of him the back line of Alfie Gillard, Jack Wood and Charlie Passmore formed a tight rear guard that kept the United sights on goal to a minimum.

Charlie Skinner had the ball in the opposition net only for it to be ruled out for an off-side offence, but Blues were not to be denied and they were indeed ahead when top scorer Harry Bennett hit the back of the net for Blues to lead at the interval.

After the break Skinner saw a shot cannon back off an upright, but, at the other end, Mcguinness was covering himself in further glory with more superb stops.

In a frantic finish the ball was squeezed over the Blues line with United thinking they had levelled, but, as had happened in the first half, the off-side flag was raised and the ‘goal’ disallowed.
