Baldwin scores as Sidmouth Town Under-15s are ‘blown away’ at Honiton

Sidmouth Town Under-15s went down 4-1 on their visit to Honiton for an Exeter and District Youth League game played out in the strong winds thrown up by Storm Callum.

Raiders began well and took an early lead when Owen Baldwin got on the end of a well-flighted Josh OConnor free-kick to turn the ball home.

With a new-look front line of Corey Rogers and Owen Baldwin, who linked up well together, Raiders had high hopes, but Honiton hit back, scoring twice in quick succession with Town goalkeeper Freddie Whitelock unable to do anything about two smart finishes.

Raiders were dealt a blow when the injury curse that has blighted their season so far struck again with the pillar of their defence and heartbeat of the team, Yan Mercan, limping out of the action with a knee injury.

In the second half, with the wind at their backs, Town went in search of a second goal, but the home side, playing with real confidence, scored twice more to bank the points.

Raiders can hope for a less stormy experience in their next game. As for this performance, the, standout contribution came from Miles Lewis, who put in a doggedly determined performance at centre back.
