Exmouth Amateurs Under-15 Girls’ were desperately unfortunate to end up being beaten by a single goal when they entertained Tiverton-based Moors in a league game.
Needing a positive result to claim the runners-up spot in the table, Ammies came up against a goalkeeper in superb form and, when the goalie was beaten, the frame of the goal kept the ball out!
The Warren view surface was in excellent condition for the match and both team passed the ball well in the early exchanges. Both defences held firm and the first half saw just the one goal, scored by Jordan Bindon of Moors.
Ammies were deservedly level 15 minutes into the second half thanks to some terrific skill from Kyra Pearce who beat a number of players before rifling the ball home.
The visitors rallied and looked to attack at every opportunity, but they were thwarted by the commanding Emily Masters and Katy Worsley. Masters, named the Player of the Match in the previous outing, was just as assured in this game.
At the other end the Moors goalkeeper was certainly playing the star role! Time and again she produced stunning saves to deny Ammies the lead.
There were just 10 minutes left when a slick counter-attack saw Moors regain the lead with home keeper Anya Coles powerless to keep out the close range strike.
In the closing stages, following a period of sustained Ammies pressure that included the forcing of a number of corners, the ball looped up off a visiting defender and, with the goalkeeper beaten, the ball cannoned back off the bar only to be caught by a grateful gloves man!
Katy Worsley stood out for the hosts with an assured display at the back. This completes the season for Ammies and they now look forward to next season.
