Barnstaple Ladies 1 v 0 Exmouth Amateur Ladies

Ammies Ladies suffered Aquarius Devon County Cup heart-break when they lost this semi-final by the narrowest of margins.

It was a lack-lustre performance throughout from Ammies as they succumbed to a goal midway through the first half.

Ammies had began the game quite well carving open the home defence several times and creating the two clearest chances of the entire game, but Ammies nemesis this year has been scoring goals and once again excellent chances went begging.

The sucker-punch was a long ball forward followed by strong play from the centre forward to see her clear of the defence and a neat lob over keeper Rose.

This seemed to completely deflate Ammies who could have gone further behind before the break as Barnstaple hit the post.

The second half showed the difference between the sides Ammies had enough possession of the ball, but lacked any cohesion and rarely tested the home keeper who didn’t make a meaningful save.

It was the home side who showed the effort and desire to win the game playing on the break they had the energy to get forward and cause Ammies problems but also the work rate to get back and defend their lead at all costs with some great tackles and brave blocks.

Ammies best chance of a goal came from a series of corners but they just couldn’t get a clear sight of the goal.

As time ran out Ammies ran out of ideas and Barnstaple held on for a deserved victory on the day with a great all round team performance
