EXMOUTH Amateurs' run without a Devon and Exeter League win has now reached eight games, writes Ross England.

The Ammies travelled to table topping Sidmouth Town on Saturday looking to break a miserable sequence of results.

For the first 40 minutes of the contest there was nothing to choose between the two sides.

Ammies had a couple of chances to break the deadlock and the hosts had also spurned a couple of excellent opportunities and it is almost typical of the lack of good fortune the side are suffering this term that the hosts struck twice in the closing stages of the half.

A hotly disputed penalty shortly after the re-start put the hosts into a commanding 3-0 lead, but still Ammies looked to get the ball down and play and their resolve, and industry, was rewarded when they got a goal back, albeit from an own goal.

A fourth late goal gave the hosts a somewhat flattering 4-1 victory.

This week, at Warrenview, Ammies face Peninsula League, Eastern Division side, Ottery St Mary in the third round Devon Premier Cup with giant killing very much on the Ammies minds!

It will be a welcome distraction to their League woes, so don’t bet against some Otter bashing!

Back at Warrenview, the Ammies Reserves gave another spirited performance before being beaten by high flying South Zeal.
