The decision to place Devon in Tier 3 of Coronavirus restrictions, plus Somerset in Tier 4, led to the seemingly inevitable suspension of football across a number of local leagues.
The Toolstation Western League announced a suspension of all games until January 22, pending the next Government review of the tier system.
It was a similar story from the South-West Peninsula League, initially postponing all games up until January 15, although the SWPL can take pride in being the league with the highest percentage of games played in the entire national league system at the turn of the year.
The Devon Football League has suspended games until January 16 at the earliest, but there is some hope for the future in the DFL, with new clubs invited to apply for a place in the league by contacting secretary David Richardson on davidrich43@hotmail.com
The Devon and Exeter League is also suspended, with a review planned around January 16.
