Flockhart and Harriott land individual top honours at Madeira finals

The Madeira Indoor finals proved to be a big success and much of that wad down to the splendid organisation of Jose Glaister and Mike Gorman.
The finals ran over a three-day period last week.
The first of the finals was the Frank Deves Mixed Pair’s which went the way of Jim Bradford And Sue Harriott, 20-9 winners over Graham Clarkson and Catherine King.
The Gooding 3 Wood Pairs was won 24-20 by Fay Hughes and Jacky Howle with Lin Halpin and Angela Denner the runners-up.
Next up was the Men’s Singles Championship which saw John Flockhart land a 22-17 success over Mike Gorman.
The Bob Caddy 2 Wood Singles was won by Mick Powell who beat Robert Berry 21-8 and the final event of the first day saw Sue Harriott win a thrilling contest 17-16 against Janine Orchard to land the Grace Matthews 2 Wood Singles title.
Day two of the finals began with a 25-18 victory for Mick Powell, Mike Gorman and Cliff Skinner in the Keith Ewins Open Triples. Dave Franklin, Graham Clarkson and Catherine King were the runners-up.
The Men’s Pairs was won by Rob Prescott and Bob Burch who defeated Gordon Medlock and Bill Rainton 31-5.
The Ladies Singles Championship went the way of Sue Harriott, a 21-6 winner over Janine Orchard.
Completing the second day of finals was the Dora Wilson 2 Wood Triples which produced a compelling match, ultimately won by Sue Croskerry, Lin Halpin and Sue Harriott by a single wood at 16-15 over Janet Allen, Brenda Marks and Angela Denner.
The third and final day kicked off with the Bob Burch Open Singles, won 21-7 by Jim Bradford over Mick Powell.
Next up was the final of the Ladies Self Select Triples which produced a 29-8 win for Jan Roberts, Janine Orchard and Catherine King who got the better of Freda Relph, Fay Hughes and Thelma Wildon.
That leaves the Tuesday Triples Knockout and that saw the Vikings made up of David Tucker, Mick Powell and Cliff Skinner, win 21-13 against the Cowboys who comprised of John Flockhart, Dave Macaulay and Mike Orchard.
