The Tolchards Devon Cricket League is coming under increasing pressure to finalise arrangements for replayed matches after the latest round of Covid-related postponements dented the weekend's programme.
Sidmouth 2nd XI's C Division East game at Exmouth 2nds was among the casualties after an Exmouth player, home from university, tested 'positive' and sparked a series of 'self-isolation' cases.
The virus has now forced several games to be called off and, with weather postponements adding to the problems during the first half of the season, clubs want the chance to make rearrangements. Some have already done so.
The League committee has two key decisions - an end-of-season 'deadline' for any matches and what points to award if those replays are themselves abandoned.
Sidmouth's Premier Division game at home to Tiverton Heathcoat did go ahead, but Luke Bess' side was on the end of what will surely be one of the finest batting performances of the season.
Heathcoat's Peter Randerson hit 219 not out off 157 balls as the leaders piled up 331-2.
In the circumstances mid-table Sidmouth did pretty well in reply - 245 all out with Dylan Hurst scoring 97 and Charlie Miles 52 off 26 balls.
Tiverton (143pts) still lead, by six points from Sandford with Paignton (120) third, Plymouth (114) fourth and Bovey Tracey (111) fifth.
In C East Upottery pulled off a shock seven-wicket win over leaders Clyst St George - James Mitcham (55no) and Rob Tasker (44no) chased down Clyst's 159 with an unbeaten fourth-wicket stand of 89.
Clyst (137) still lead, from Exmouth II (133), Braunton (131) and Sidmouth II (119).
G Division Sidbury are still hunting down leaders Shobrooke Park after another thumping win - Dave O'Connor scored 77 out of 247-9 again Kentisbeare, who were skittled out for 57 (Stephen Howe 3-12).
Saturday's fixtures for local clubs include: Premier - Hatherleigh v Sidmouth, Exmouth v Sandford; A - Barton v Budleigh Salterton; C East - Sidmouth II v Braunton, Sandford II v Exeter II, Ottery St Mary v Upottery, Clyst St George v Exeter II; D East - Chardstock v Feniton, Clyst Hydon v Uplyme/Lyme Regis; Sidmouth III v Alphington/Countess Wear; G East - Alphington II v Sidbury.
