The Upham family from Brixham have been showing us all how to do it again with both Shay and his father Jason fishing a local Estuary for Thin Lipped Mullet using ragworm on a small spinner.
Shay landed a superb fish of nearly 4lbs but was beaten by dad, who caught a new Angling Trust, Wyvern area shore caught catch and release record fish of 5lbs.
This fish also takes the fish of the month competition for July and a pack will soon be on its way from our sponsor Sidewinder Lures.
Will Booth and Chris Wagstaff took a trip to the North Somerset reefs where the target was Smooothhounds, several were landed along with some good-sized Thornback Rays, the pick of the fish being a Smoothhound of 15lbs 2oz to Chris, an early contender for the August fish of the month.
Joe Cleave, James Parnell and their friend Alex fished a Torquay rock mark using squid and fish baits where several small congers were landed. The Bass fishing seems to be picking up around the beaches and estuaries with one being caught this week by Andy Young.
Damion Fryer continues to fish for them with lures and has landed and returned plenty of small fish. Exmouth SAC report 20 different species from the shore last month with Plaice, Rays, Wrasse and Gurnard all featuring.
Some members of Honiton Sac took a trip to Portishead to fish on Chris Buxton‘s boat Channel Explorer, targeting Dover Sole where several of these prized fish were landed along with some good-sized Bass.
Kennick Flyfishers travelled to Wimbleball Reservoir on Exmoor to fish the latest round of the Snowbee Top Rod Competition. Six anglers fished on what proved to be a difficult day after the recent very hot weather. The fish stayed deep with only six being caught.
Top rod was Tom Hendy from Chudleigh with two fish for a weight of 4lbs 9oz, with John Hern and Darren Penfold taking the next two places. Darren had the biggest Trout of the day weighing 3lbs 1oz.
